Supply and demand trading: common questions
Straight answers from the CtrlTrading guide, plus how the indicator works.
What is supply and demand trading?
Supply and demand chart analysis starts with one question: where did price leave decisively, and what happens if it returns? Traders mark the pause before a strong move as a zone to watch. A zone is a hypothesis to test, not proof of hidden orders.
What is the difference between supply and demand zones?
A demand zone is a pause followed by a strong upward move, and an unbroken one is often below current price. A supply zone is a pause followed by a strong downward move, and an unbroken one is often above current price.
What do RBR, DBR, RBD and DBD mean?
R is a rally, D is a drop and B is the base, read left to right. A name ending in R is a demand formation and one ending in D is a supply formation. DBR and RBD are reversals, RBR and DBD are continuations, and neither type is automatically better.
What is the difference between a fresh and a tested zone?
A fresh zone is one price has not returned into since it formed. A tested zone has been revisited at least once. Fresh is a description, not a guarantee: a fresh zone can still fail on its first touch.
What do original and flip mean?
Some approaches call a zone original if it did not form as a reaction to an earlier zone on its left. A flip zone is a fresh zone that forms inside an area where the opposite zone was just broken. Definitions vary, and beginners can leave both out at first.
What does the CtrlTrading indicator do on TradingView?
It plots supply and demand zones on your chart automatically and labels each with its side, formation, originality, flip marker and fresh or tested status. A zone only appears once price has moved away from it, and it is removed when price pushes through. It is a charting tool and does not give trade signals.
Do I need the indicator to use the free guide?
No. The free beginner's guide works on any charting platform with candlesticks and a rectangle tool, and it is free for personal, educational use.
How do I get the indicator?
The indicator is a monthly subscription at $189.99 per month and includes free updates. You can buy it directly on this site.
Does the indicator guarantee profits?
No. Trading involves risk and you can lose money. No chart pattern guarantees a result, and nothing on this site is financial advice.
